How old does my puppy or kitten need to be to start their vaccines?

Puppies start their vaccines at 6-8 weeks of age. Kittens start their vaccines at 8 weeks of age. Both puppies and kittens require a series of vaccines to be completely protected from various diseases.

How old does a puppy or kitten need to be before being spayed or neutered?

Marcello Veterinary Hospital recommends spaying at 6 months of age before they ever have their first heat cycle. Spaying your pet before they come into heat for the first time reduces the risks of mammary cancer by 85%. Neutering is recommended at 6-8 months of age.

Does my pet truly need a dental procedure?

It is always important to take your pet to your local clinic as soon as your friend exhibits a change in behavior. Some changes may be insignificant, but others could indicate a more serious change that should be evaluated immediately by your veterinarian.

What if I begin to notice visible parasites for the first time on my pet?

If you notice visible parasites on your pet, call us today and schedule an appointment so that our veterinarians can recommend the appropriate treatment for your pet. Flea and tick preventatives have improved greatly in recent years. These preventatives are safe and effective and come in a wide variety of forms. How often should my pet have an exam and blood work?

At Marcello Veterinary Hospital, we recommend annual visits. Early detection blood work is offered for dogs starting at the age of four years.

What financing options do you offer or is payment expected at the time of service?

Payment is due at the time of service in the form of cash, check, debit/credit card. Our hospital also accepts Care Credit. Apply at www.carecredit.com/apply.

What if my pet has an after-hour problem?

After-hour emergencies are referred to an on-call doctor via A-1 answering service. If the on-call doctor is not available, clients will be referred to an emergency vet such as Med Vet during weekends/holidays.
