Microchipping

According to the American Humane Association, every year millions of dogs and cats are brought to animal shelters. Of the animals brought in with no ID tags or microchips, only 15 percent of the dogs and 2 percent of the cats are successfully reunited with their owners. Marcello Veterinary Hospital offers the HomeAgain microchip, a widely used product that increases the chances of a safe recovery of your lost pet.

Microchipping is a method of providing permanent identification for your four-legged friend that can’t get lost, stolen, or damaged. A microchip is a safe, simple form of identification that can significantly increase the chance for a reunion between you and your pet. A microchip is about the size and shape of a grain of rice. Each chip has a unique number that is registered to a pet. It is injected beneath the surface of your pet's skin between the shoulder blades in a process similar to a vaccination. The procedure takes only a few minutes and can be completed during any visit to Marcello Veterinary Hospital.

We will register your pet’s microchip in the national pet recovery database, and you will be required to finish the registration by adding your contact information and address–remember to always keep your information up to date.

The HomeAgain microchip has a patented anti-migration feature that ensures the microchip will stay in place for easy locating and scanning. If your dog or cat becomes lost and someone brings them to get scanned at a veterinary office or shelter, the scanner will read the microchip’s unique ID registration code, and it will be used to identify your pet and retrieve your contact information. You can then be successfully reunited with your loved one.

We strongly recommend microchips for both indoor and outdoor pets. We love happy endings to stories of lost pets, so please consider microchipping your pet today.
